Aitzaz fingers at ex-CJ, PML-N in rigging 2013 polls
PPP lawmaker says proofs of worst rigging lie in vote bags; asks EC members to resign for failure to ensure transparent election
INP
LAHORE – Leader of Opposition in Senate Aitzaz Ahsan has said that the consensus of former chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) in rigging the 2013 general election cannot be ruled out.
“Worst rigging took place in the 2013 general election and the proofs lie in vote bags”, he said, in an interview here on Sunday. He said that rigging could have been proved if the Judicial Commission (JC) during probe had directed to open the vote bags.
Aitzaz said that after decision of the JC, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan did not need to congratulate Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif or seek apology for his allegations regarding rigging charges. To a question, the opposition leader said that the PML-N was not in position to win the by-elections after de-seating the PTI members.
He said that in accordance with the constitution and law, membership of the PTI MNAs is there and it will stay till the parliament through joint resolution de-seats them. He demanded that members of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) should step down admitting their failure to conduct free and fair elections.
Aitzaz said that it was the constitutional right of the former chief justice to participate in active politics of Pakistan but he would not support him. He said that the time would decide whether Iftikhar Chaudhry becomes a successful politician or not.
