Pakistan receives Indian proposal, not yet confirm meeting in New Delhi
Sartaj says agenda for yet-to-be confirmed meeting not yet fixed
ISLAMABAD – Adviser on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz has said that Pakistan has received a proposal from India of a meeting between national security advisers of the two countries.
Sartaj said that India proposed 23rd and 24th of this month for the meeting. Pakistan has not yet confirmed the proposed meeting, he said, adding that the agenda of the meeting has also not yet fixed. Some private TV channels reported that Adviser Sartaj is likely to visit India this month for the talks with his Indian counterpart.
The Indian media has claimed that a meeting between Sartaj Aziz and Ajit Doval has been scheduled for mid-August wherein they will discuss the current security situation in the region and other key issues. Foreign Office spokesperson Qazi Khalilullah confirmed that key officials of Pakistan and India were in contact ahead of the meeting.
Reports said the two sides are discussing possible dates on which Sartaj Aziz can visit New Delhi for the talks amid a war of words between the two neighbours over the ceasefire violations and firing at the Working Boundary. During a recent meeting between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi in the Russian city of Ufa, the two leaders had agreed to a meeting of their security advisers in New Delhi.
According to the understanding reached in Ufa, Adviser Sartaj Aziz would travel to New Delhi for talks with his Indian counterpart Ajit Doval, who would then make a reciprocal visit to Islamabad.
