Pakistan is safe for investors: Ahsan

ISLAMABAD: Planning and Development Minister Ahsan Iqbal on Tuesday ordered department concerned to update flood management plan to ensure preparedness in the future.

He was chairing a meeting to evaluate the recent floods, which was attended by officials of federal and provincial governments. He said that concerted efforts are needed to deal with the shifting patterns of weather due to climate change, which has brought flooding in the vast areas of the country in recent years. He said recommendations should take stock fiscal position and make doable recommendations. He pointed out that scientific means of flood management should be employed through a proactive approach.

The minister said that a lack of coordination and integration between various government departments was sometimes responsible for late response. “Through coordination among stakeholders we can minimise damages. The federal government is helping provincial governments to meet flood challenges.”

The meeting was informed that the KP government has been provided with two helicopters to speedup relief efforts in Chital. Representatives of provincial governments gave briefing on flood situation in their respective provinces.

Meanwhile, chairing a meeting on CPEC, Iqbal said the CPEC transformed the scenario from a geopolitical one to geo-economic. He said, “We all have to make efforts of synergetic mood to defeat the challenges come in the way of CPEC.” He said peace and stability are prerequisite for development and for the success of CPEC these are of paramount importance. He said that anti-Pakistan forces might throw spanners to spoil the project, which would prove a fate changer for whole region.

He said CPEC gave birth to a positive image of Pakistan, which is being acknowledged internationally that now Pakistan is a “safe haven for investment”.
