CM Sindh raises questions over FIA, NAB raids, vows legal action

KARACHI: Expressing concerns over recent raids carried out by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah on Thursday vowed legal proceedings against what he termed ‘interference in provincial matters’.

Speaking to media representatives here, he said that NAB has been present in Sindh for a long time, however, its presence was felt only recently.

“It [NAB] has suddenly activated… I am myself a lawyer, an FIR should be lodged if a crime has been committed, at least the criminal law says the same,” said Shah.

FIA had never interfered in the provincial matters before, said the chief minister, adding that there was no need for other (federal) departments over matters relating to corruption in the province.

“I have reservations over FIA… they shouldn’t be here,” he added.

Shah went on to say that unnecessary raids were carried out at Civic Centre and land files were confiscated. “In search of one or two files, four to five thousand files were taken away from there,” he added.

The chief minister Sindh said his government was consulting its legal expert over the issue and vowed legal action in this regard.

“The federation should protect our rights,” he concluded.
