Traders want detailed briefing on WHT from SBP and FBR
LAHORE: The traders have written a letter to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), putting forward a few questions under Article 19A regarding statistics on the withholding tax (WHT).
The All Pakistan Anjuman-e-Tajiran Central General Secretary Naeem Mir has written separate letters and said, “Both the FBR chairman and the SBP governor are bound to respond within seven days under Article 19A.”
The letter asked about the number of bank account holders in the country, the number of filers and non-filers, the amount that has been deducted from the bank account holders under 0.6% and 0.3% WHT on their banking transactions since July 1, the amount that FBR has collected from filers and non-filers under 0.3% WHT and the target of FBR in federal budget 2015-16 to collect under WHT on banking transaction.
Naeem Mir said the release of this particular data would make it clear that the government’s main objective is only to raise the revenue through WHT.
“The government is on a looting spree and the countrywide strikes and shutter downs have not moved any official of the elected government.” He said on August 10, the traders of the country would discuss various options including protest rallies, sit-inns in front of the FBR head office, the halt of VIP movement and aggressive movement against the government.
The meeting would also decide next date of shutter down strike in the country. He made it clear that the trader would never accept WHT in any case.
