NewsPakistan lodges protest with India over latest LoC firing casualty
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan lodged a strong protest on Tuesday against the latest incident of unprovoked firing by Indian troops at the Line of Control (LoC).
The Deputy High Commissioner of India was summoned to the Foreign Office today to lodge a protest over the killing of a 28-year-old Pakistani woman, Fareeda, who succumbed to her wounds today at a hospital in Rawalpindi after being injured by firing on Friday across the LoC.
Fareeda was severely injured on Friday after she received bullet wounds in the stomach when Indian Border Security Force (BSF) resorted to unprovoked firing across the border in Jandrot sector near the LoC.
"Pakistan also condemned the latest unprovoked ceasefire violations by the Indian security forces at the LoC in Nakial sector near Kotli and Bhimber Gali sector on August 9, in which Pakistani posts were targeted," said the statement.
"Indian security forces have committed 37 and 24 unprovoked ceasefire violations on the LoC and the Working Boundary in July and August respectively."
The statement continued: "The government of Pakistan expressed its deep concern at the continuous and unprovoked ceasefire violations and urged India to stop them forthwith."
Fareeda was being treated at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) at Rawalpindi where she succumbed to her wounds today, the ISPR said in a press statement.
Fareeda is the latest casualty of a recent flare-up at the LoC and Working Boundary that divides the disputed regions between the two neighbouring countries, with India continuously violating the ceasefire agreement.
Last week, three Pakistani civilians were martyred and 11 injured due to a similar incident of unprovoked firing and shelling by Indian forces across the Sialkot Working Boundary.
