Pakistan to spend $33bn on energy from $46bn Chinese grant
Chinese delegation calls on Punjab CM, discusses increase in cooperation

LAHORE – Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that energy and other development projects are being set up across Pakistan with the investment package of billions of dollars given by China which will benefit the whole region.

He was talking to a delegation led by Vice President of China’s People’s Association for Peace and Disarmament He Jun here on Tuesday. Matters regarding promotion of Pak-China relations and increase in cooperation in various sectors were discussed during the meeting.

The chief minister said that the China Pakistan Economic Corridor was a valuable gift and the investment package of 46 billion dollars was also unprecedented in the history. He said that about 33 billion dollars would be spent on energy projects out of the total package.

He said that work was being carried out speedily on 1320 megawatt coal-based power project in Sahiwal and a 100 megawatt solar project in Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park Bahawalpur had been completed in a record period with the cooperation of China. He said that Pakistan would be able to overcome energy crisis with the cooperation of China.

He said that there should be maximum exchange of delegations between Pakistan and China in trade, culture, education and other sectors. He said that more contacts should be made between Pakistan Muslim League-N and the Communist Party of China so that relations at party level could be strengthened.

On the occasion, He Jun said that China gave high importance to its relations with Pakistan. He said that Shahbaz Sharif has taken practical measures in the real sense for the welfare of the people and due to leadership qualities of the chief minister, Punjab province would become prosperous soon.

Provincial ministers Rana Sanaullah, Shuja Khanzada, Zakia Shahnawaz, Lahore Transport Company Chairman Khawaja Ahmad Hasaan, Chinese Consul General Yu Boren and other members of the delegation were also present.
