ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar on Monday told the National Assembly that the government believed in resolving issues through dialogue, but hate speeches of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain were adding fuel to the fire.
Journalists staged a token walk out for not restoring the frozen salary accounts of Bol.
Speaker Ayaz Sadiq requested Mushahidullah Khan to bring them back. After 20-minute negotiations, the reporters made their way back.
Nisar said, “The entire nation stands united over the child molestation issue in Kasur.” He said that the opposition should refrain from playing politics over this sensitive issue.
Nisar claimed, “The issue is a provincial matter while the NA is meant for discussing the national issues.” He said the treasury would not allow the opposition to break the rules of conducting the proceedings of the Lower House.”
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmaker Shah Mehmood Qureshi moved an adjournment motion over the Kasur issue while Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) lawmaker Nafeesa Shah moved a call attention notice. Speaker Ayaz Sadiq dismissed both, saying, “The issue is a provincial matter.”
Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) lawmaker Farooq Sattar said that the Karachi operation had begun on their request. He grieved that the operation has turned its grip on MQM only. He said that over 150 people were arrested who have gone missing. He demanded Nisar for providing detail on their whereabouts.
Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar said the issue at Karachi is of law and order. He said, “All political parties are united over the issue of continuing the Rangers operation against terrorists.” Nisar clarified that the Karachi operation is not MQM-centric.
He said that he had convened a meeting with the Rangers director general over Farooq Sattar’s request. He said that instructions have been given for not arresting any parliamentarian, unless Nisar himself provides the direction. He also said that Rangers have been instructed for not filing any first information report (FIR) against any lawmaker.
Nisar blamed MQM supremo Altaf Hussain for creating a “quicksand” for himself and his party. He said the hate speeches of Altaf have “a negative impact not just on the Rangers and armed forces but the entire country”. Awami Muslim League (AML) lawmaker Sheikh Rasheed demanded the adjournment of House under the Rule 288 over the pedophile issue at Kasur. Moments later the AML, MQM, PTI and PPP staged a token walkout.
