ECP proposes phase-wise LG polls in Sindh, Punjab
ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday presented before the Supreme Court a report for holding a phase-wise local government elections in Punjab and Sindh provinces in November and December.
The apex court has demanded an explanation over holding the polls in three phases with delay.
A three member bench, headed by Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja, held the hearing of LG elections case here on Wednesday.
ECP’s counsel Munir Paracha put forth the proposed schedule of elections in Punjab and Sindh. The schedule recommends holding of elections in three phases with the first on November 14, second on November 29 and the third on December 19.
However, the apex court has expressed dissatisfaction over the proposal and sought an explanation regarding delay in the issue.
Justice Khawaja said the ECP should present reasons behind stretching elections until November and December.
Later, hearing of the case was adjourned till Thursday.
