No plan to shelve Karachi operation: Dar
Dar says MQM to be handled just like PTI
ISLAMABAD – Federal Minister for Finance and Economic Affairs Senator Ishaq Dar has said the stance of the federal government and the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-N is very clear on operation of the security forces in Karachi as it would not compromise over principles.
Talking to journalists, he said that all permissible demands of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) would be addressed. He said that all political parties including the MQM should play their role in the parliament for national interest as people had awarded them mandate.
He said that the MQM should play its constructive role in the parliament as it had played for National Action Plan, recent constitutional amendments and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). To a question, Dar said that the government did not have any plan to end the operation which would continue until all the set targets were achieved.
He informed the journalists that the operation in Karachi was started on MQM’s demand with consensus of all political parties which was being conducted without any discrimination. He said that the dialogue was the better way to move forward. The government had resolved PTI’s resignation issue through dialogue and the same would be done over the issue of MQM’s resignations.
He mentioned that the government has assigned responsibility to Jamiat Ulema IslamI-F chief Fazlur Rehman for having talks with MQM. The minister said that National Assembly Speaker Ayyaz Sadiq was working independently under the constitution and would follow the legal process over the resignations of MQM’s members.
He said that Pakistan was facing different challenges including security and energy issues and the law enforcement agencies were fighting against terrorism and achieved many successes. On Friday, Senator Dar also called on Fazlur Rehman and discussed political situation in the wake of MQM’s resignations.
Dar assured Fazl that all legitimate demands and concerns of the MQM would be addressed by the government. The minister urged the JUI-F to play his role to resolve the political row. On Friday, MQM announced a sudden departure from Senate, National Assembly and Sindh Assembly over the operation in Karachi.
