India pulls gates on Sutlej, 5 villages inundated in Kasur

KASUR - Flood water on Saturday entered in as many as five villages as torrent of about 55,000 cusecs through Ganda Singh point after India pulled gates of River Sutlej.

Water level had risen to at least 19 feet and 3,000 acres land was inundated. District administration has started relocating people belonging to villages on river banks.

Affected villages include Bhaki Wind, Katti Kalanjar, Basti Kamal Pura and Mastay Kay. Rescue 1122 staffers and administration were shifting people to safer places using boats.

However, most of the administration officials are busy with the joint investigation team (JIT) members, who are assigned to probe Kasur child abuse scandal. The affectees have not been provided relief goods and the people are facing issues.

The administration had established camps at Talwar Post at least a month ago, but no relief activities have been started yet.
