Army chief directs spies to dig out mastermind behind Attock attack
General Sharif appreciates Khanzada’s services

RAWALPINDI – Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif on Sunday directed the intelligence agencies to help find perpetrators of the terrorist attack on Punjab Minister for Home Affairs Shuja Khanzada – a retired army colonel – in his hometown near Attock, killing one of the most important ministers of the province among others.

Khanzada along with 10 other people including a senior police officer killed in his Shadi Khan village in Attock when a suicide bomber attacked his political office where all they were trapped under the rubble. Rawalpindi confirmed that it was a suicide attack.

According to reports, a jirga (open court) was underway at the minister’s political office in his native village when the suicide attacker detonated his explosives. The blast caused the roof of the building to collapse under which the provincial home minister and other people were trapped.

– Dastardly coward attempts –

“Such dastardly coward attempts cannot dent our national resolve to eliminate the menace,” Inter-Service Public Relations quoted the army chief as saying. General Sharif condemned the terrorist attack, saying that Khanzada was a bold officer whose sacrifice for the greater cause of cleansing Pakistan would not go waste.

– Information minister condoles –

In a separate statement, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Pervaiz Rashid also expressed his deep grief and sorrow over the sad demise of Shuja Khanzada, saying the minister’s death was a national tragedy and he would be remembered long for his valour and courage.

He said that his sacrifice in the war against terrorism would not go waste and the operation would continue till elimination of last terrorist from the soil of Pakistan. The federal minister also conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prayed to Almighty Allah to rest the departed soul in eternal peace.
