Pakistan Red Crescent observes World Humanitarian Day
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Red Crescent (PRC) on Wednesday celebrated World Humanitarian Day to recognise those who risk their lives by helping others in distress. Speaking on the occasion, PRC Chairman Dr Saeed Elahi said, “The day reminds us to pay tribute to those who lost their lives for humanitarian cause.” He said that due to these sacrifices, the humanitarian workers without any discrimination are reaching to the vulnerable be it anywhere in the world. Dr Saeed Elahi said, “Red Crescent being the leading humanitarian of the country is committed to serve the humanity and our staff and volunteers are always in the forefront to help the natural or man-made disaster victims. The chairman said that those who sacrificed their lives for this noble cause of serving the humanity are a beacon light for, as they gave their lives for the others. The PRC staff and volunteers will continue to serve those who need the most in a more effective way, he added. Addressing the participants, PRC Secretary General Dr Rizwan Naseer said that during the last ten years thousands of aid workers all over the world were either injured, kidnapped or killed and Pakistan also witnessed attack on aid workers and many lost their lives in service to humanity. International Federation of Red Cross Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) Head of Pakistan Delegation Gorkhmaz Huseynov also spoke on the occasion. A photo exhibition depicting humanitarian activities was also organised at the PRCS National Headquarters. World Humanitarian Day is also an opportunity to celebrate the spirit that inspires humanitarian work around the globe. The day calls people from all walks of lives to play an active role in serving for humanity.
