Nawaz Sharif govt, assemblies must complete tenure, says Zardari
Former president says no confrontation with military establishment

LONDON – Calling his relations with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif as excellent, former president and Pakistan People’s Party Co-Chairman of PPP Asif Ali Zardari has said that the government and assemblies must complete their mandated tenure.

In an interview with a private TV channel, he said that his statement was not against the military establishment but what he said was to save democracy in line with his own thinking. He said whether in the government or in the opposition, they have never challenged the military.

He said that the PPP and the army have always worked hand in hand for the betterment of Pakistan and supported every operation of the army. He said that they have no problem in Sindh operation as they supported the government at every front in the fight against terrorism. He said that the Karachi operation was supported by all including the Pakistan People’s Party and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement.

– MQM resignations –

He pointed out that the MQM has also signed the establishment of military courts. He said that he would return home after his medical check-up. He said that his experience and youth of Bilawal Bhutto would take Pakistan forward. He said that it was better for Pakistan that resignations of the MQM lawmakers were not accepted. He hoped that JUI-F leader Fazlur Rehman would succeed in his role for mediation.

– Khursheed Shah’s role –

He said that the politics should not suffer and he has asked opposition leader Khursheed Shah to play a role. He said that PPP has an important role in bringing peace in Sindh. Zardari said that Zulfikar Ali Bhutto made Pakistan a nuclear power while the subsequent PPP governments gave missile programme to the country. He said they always worked for the country by setting aside differences and even suffered.
