Govt committed to make PEMRA effective body: aide
Adviser says Code of Conduct for media prepared in consultation with Pakistan Broadcasters Association
ISLAMABAD – Special Assistant on National Affairs Irfan Siddiqui has said that the government is committed to make Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority an effective organisation and steps are being taken in this regard.
Talking to state-owned channel, he said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had directed to streamline the affairs of PEMRA and legislation, if required, would also be made for the purpose. Irfan said that Code of Conduct for electronic media was prepared in consultation with the Pakistan Broadcasters Association.
The adviser said that the Islamabad High court had imposed a ban on any recruitment in PEMRA. However, after the directive issued by the Supreme Court on Friday, the government gave an advertisement for the appointment of its chairman.
He urged all the stakeholders, including Pakistan Broadcasters Association and owners of media houses to play their role for the implementation of Code of Conduct in true letter and spirit.
