US urges Pakistan, India to resolve formal talks, resolve Kashmir issue

WASHINGTON – The United States urged Pakistan and India to resume a formal dialogue process soon, private TV channel reported.

“We’re disappointed that the talks didn’t happen. And as I’ve said before, we just encourage India and Pakistan to resume a formal dialogue soon,” US State Department spokesman John Kirby said, in a daily briefing. “Tensions in the region are significant and the US believes it’s important for leaders of both the countries to resume dialogue to try to come to some resolution.”

Kirby said that Pakistan and India have a chance to talk during UN General Assembly meeting next month, adding that it is up to the leaders of both the countries to whether or not they will use the opportunity to further discuss. To a question, the spokesman said that the US positions on the tension in Kashmir is not changed and that this is an issue that Pakistan and India need to resolve.
