Nazarbayev wants to start a new page in relations with Pakistan
Kazakh president appreciates Pakistan’s active foreign policy

ASTANA – Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev on Wednesday praised Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for his role in gradual development in Pakistan.

“Amid challenging conditions you initiated successful economic and political reforms in Pakistan and carried out active foreign policy, thus, raising Pakistan's prestige,” he told the prime minister during their bilateral meeting. Historically, countries of the region where Pakistan and Kazakhstan were situated were always closely linked by trade and culture, he said.

“You've already visited our former capital Almaty. Since then, we have built a new capital, the pride of all Kazakhstanis. This city is the symbol of our independence and success achieved throughout the years of sovereignty,” the Kazakh leader said.

In turn, Prime Minister Nawaz thanked President Nazarbayev for invitation and said he admires his leadership skills. “In light of new realities, it is time to start a new page in the bilateral relations between Pakistan and Kazakhstan,” President Nazarbayev said.

– Pakistan’s support to Kazakhstan –

“I am sure that your visit is a good fresh impetus to revitalise our relations which we laid in 1992 and I remember that meeting. Kazakhstan will never forget that Pakistan is one of the first countries which supported our independence,” he said, and expressed the confidence that Nawaz Sharif's visit to Kazakhstan would contribute to further development of relations between the two countries.
