COAS increases number of military courts in Karachi

KARACHI: Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif has approved increase in number of military courts in Karachi to handle pending cases of terrorism. The army chief also directed the security agencies to continue the operation in Karachi to eliminate terrorists, criminals and mafias. According to an ISPR press release, he issued these directives during his visit to the Five Corps headquarters where Corps Commander Lt General Naveed Mukhtar and Sindh Rangers Director General Major General Bilal Akbar briefed him on the security situation in Karachi. He commended all ranks of Rangers, police and intelligence agencies as well as people of Karachi for their support in the operation. General Raheel said the operation will continue to eliminate terrorists, criminals and mafias from the port city. The army chief also called for breaking the nexus between terrorists, criminal mafias and corruption to ensure a peaceful and terror-free Karachi. He handed over a cheque of Rs 65 million to Karachi police for procurement of new equipment and capacity building. The briefing was also attended by Sindh Chief Secretary Siddique Memon, Sindh IG Ghulam Haider Jamali and senior military and civil officials.
