Karachi operation will continue, MQM asked to withdraw resignations: PM

KARACHI: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Thursday that the operation in the city would continue and it was not aimed at any political party.

Addressing at a function held by the Parsi community, the prime minister emphasised that the operation was initiated with the consensus of all political parties.

Prime Minister Sharif said the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) had been asked to withdraw their resignations and sit in the assemblies. “Despite what all was said by the PTI against us, we were still not willing to accept their resignations.”
Earlier, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif address a meeting held to review the law and order situation in Karachi. The prime minister said extortion, kidnapping for ransom and target killing had almost been eliminated from Karachi.

"It has almost been 2 years since start of the operation which was started with complete consensus. I believe the conditions in Karachi are much better now that two years of the operation are about to be completed.


PM inaugurates KANUPP-2 power project

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif inaugurated the KANUPP-II and III power projects in Karachi.

The prime minister attended the concrete-pouring ceremony of the KANUPP-II and III nuclear power plants, the largest in the country, which will generate 1,100MW electricity each.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the premier said the foundations for the K-2 and K-3 projects were laid in November 2013 and that he was pleased at the timely start of the project.

"This project is an example of the healthy friendship between Pakistan and China. We are thankful for the continued support of Pakistan by the Chinese government," said the prime minister as he congratulated the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission on the timely start of the project.

The prime minister also spoke about the implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP) as well as the recent attacks that claimed the life of Punjab Home Minister Col (r) Shuja Khanzada in Shadi Khan and the one in Karachi that has left MQM leader Abdul Rashid Godil fighting for his life. He added that terrorist activities and attacks will not stop the government’s mission.

PM Sharif was earlier received by Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ibad and Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah upon his arrival.
