PML calls for boycott of by-polls under current ECP
Online
LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League (PML) senior leader and former deputy prime minister Chaudhary Parvez Elahi has said that all four members of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) have lost their trust and until they resign, elections would not be transparent.
He said that PML would not take part in the bye-elections and urged other political parties to also boycott the bye-elections until the resignation of ECP members.
Talking to media at his residence on Sunday, he said that all parties are demanding that members of the election commission should immediately resign. Free and fair election would only be possible when new members come and their selection should also be done in consultation with all political parties, he added.
Responding to a question, he said those who were involved in rigging in the 2013 general election cannot not hold free and fair elections and almost all parties had protested against the mismanagement of the last general election.
