NAB to make Panama JIT witness in references against Sharif family
ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has on Monday decided to make the six-member investigation bench of Panama Joint Investigation Committee (JIT) as primary witnesses in references against Sharif family ordered by the Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan.
The JIT submitted its final report on July 10, after which the SC announced its decision on July 28 and ousted the former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, further ordering to file references against Sharif family within six weeks on basis of JIT's report and the material provided by the probing team.
Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar has appointed Justice Ijazul Ahsan, one of the five judges who disqualified Nawaz, to monitor NAB proceedings against Nawaz and family.
The appointment of Ijazul Ahsan has been challenged by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Barrister Zafarullah Khan, who said that appointment of judges to monitor cases by SC goes against the notion of transparency in trials.
The JIT which probed Panama Papers case includes:
Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Additional Director General Wajid Zia
Military Intelligence’s Brig Kamran Khurshid
National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) Director Irfan Naeem Mangi
State Bank of Pakistan’s Amer Aziz
Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan’s (SECP) Executive Director Bilal Rasool
Inter-Services Intelligence’s Brig Muhammad Nauman Saeed
