Faryal Talpur demands head of JIT be removed
The FIA ordered the JIT to investigate the charges of money laundering that Faryal Talpur and Asif Ali Zardari are accused of. Zardari and Talpur failed to appear before the FIA once more despite the repeated reminders issued by the JIT
ISLAMABAD: Faryal Talpur has demanded that the head of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) ordered Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Najaf Mirza be removed.
The FIA ordered the JIT to investigate the charges of money laundering that Faryal Talpur and Asif Ali Zardari are accused of. Zardari and Talpur failed to appear before the FIA once more despite the repeated reminders issued by the JIT.
Najaf Mirza has been accused of facilitating the torture of former President Asif Ali Zardari. Talpur’s counsel, Farooq H Naik has said that a impartial inquiry cannot occur with the presence of Najaf Mirza and therefore has requested the FIA to replace him.
Naik further said that Talpur is ready to cooperate fully but wasn’t able to appear before the JIT because she was in Larkana to submit her asset details.
The FIA is investigating 32 people in relation to money-laundering from fictitious accounts, including Asif Zardari and his sister Faryal Talpur. Zardari’s close aide and former Pakistan Stock Exchange chairman Hussain Lawai was arrested earlier this month in connection with the probe.
