1000 billion PKR in foreign banks: CJP

The Governor of the State Bank Tariq Bajwa has said that they have begun inquiry and with a will be able produce results very soon and requested more time from the court.

ISLAMABAD: The Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar while hearing a case regarding the assets of overseas Pakistanis and landlords in foreign banks today said that 1000 billion PKR have been deposited in foreign banks and he intends to bring 600 billion PKR back to the country.

The Governor of the State Bank Tariq Bajwa has said that they have begun inquiry and with a will be able produce results very soon and requested more time from the court.

The Chief Justice retorted that it makes no sense for the bureaucracy to claim that they are powerless in this ordeal and the court has every right trace the money beyond transferred from Pakistan to elsewhere.

The CJP recommended that the State Bank should collaborate with the FIA and call into questioning the people who failed to declare their assets in the Amnesty Scheme.

On request of Tariq Bajwa, the court has been adjourned and the next hearing is scheduled on 3rd September.
