ECP accepts Imran Khan’s apology for contentious vote casting
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) accepted Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf's (PTI) Imran Khan's apology for breaching electoral rules when he cast his vote publicly, on Friday.

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) accepted Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Imran Khan’s apology for breaching electoral rules when he cast his vote publicly, on Friday.

ECP has also ordered the issuance of Khan’s victory notification in NA-53 for the General Elections which were held on July 25.

Khan had submitted a signed apology earlier in the day after ECP rejected his counsel Babar Awan’s response yesterday. Khan submitted his apology to a four-member bench headed by Chief Election Commissionor Sardar Muhammad Raza.

Khan’s 92,891 votes in NA-53 defeated former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abassi’s 44,314 votes.

Imran Khan’s victory notification had since been suspended due to him publicly stamping his ballot paper, which was a breach of the Election Act.
