Security stepped up for Muharram processions
KARACHI: Security has been beefed-up for 08, 09, 10 Muharram processions in the metropolis. The police have sealed shops and blocked roads with containers, Geo News reported.
All link roads with MA Jinnah Road have been declared no entry zone, all shopping plazas and shops on the processions routes have been sealed.
According to SSP South Naeem Shaikh, entry into Muharram processions would be allowed only after frisking.
Several thousands of policemen and Rangers have been deployed to oversee the security along the routes, rooftops, besides, search mechanism; walk-through gates would also be available to scan the participants of the processions.
Sindh Home Minister, Manzoor Hussain Wassan has said that the army has also been put on alert, besides, the police and Rangers, to face any eventuality during Muharram.
He said that at least 300 streets along the traditional routes of the procession to be taken out from Numaish to Imambargah Hussainian Iranian, Kharadar would be sealed.
The minister said that helicopter surveillance would also be carried out which would also be in touch with the main control room of the Central Police Office (CPO) and the hospitals had also been alerted in case of any emergency.
