Tariq Khosa refuses to head memogate commission

By Hasnaat Malik

ISLAMABAD: Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) former director general Tariq Khosa excused himself from being the head of the commission formed to probe the memogate issue.

According to sources, the Supreme Court received his excuse for not investigating the memo scandal. Sources said that former inspector general Rafiq Haider would most likely be appointed in his stead.

On December 1, the court appointed Tariq Khosa to head the commission and allowed him to be assisted by a cyber crime expert and to go abroad for the same purpose.

The SC also directed him to inform the court about his availability so that the task could be assigned to another official if he were unavailable.

Meanwhile, sources revealed to Daily Times that the legal team of the Pakistan People’s Party had decided to garner the support of the superior bars on its stance, which was that parliament was the only competent body to take decisions with regard to political affairs. A senior PPP lawyer said that all provincial bars, the Supreme Court Bar and the Pakistan Bar Council would be asked to support the stance of the PPP on the memo issue.

Former SCBA president Asma Jahangir will contest the Hussain Haqqani case in the Supreme Court.
