Judiciary should not be involved in memo case: SCBA
LAHORE: Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Yasin Azad and Secretary Aslam Zar said that issues like the memogate scandal should be taken up in parliament and that the judiciary should not be involved in them. Addressing a joint press conference, the SCBA leaders said that political stakeholders should settle their issues in parliament and that matter like memogate should be resolved by parliament. They said that formation of a commission was the duty of parliament. They also said that the every institution of the state should perform their duties within constitutional limits and should not interfere in the domain of others. Azad said that it would be not in the interest of country if institutions went beyond their limits. He said that PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif had to discuss the memogate issue in the National Assembly as his party had 90 seats and should have avoided taking it before the court. The SCBA president went on to add that the attorney general was present before the apex court during the hearing on the memogate petitions, but the SC did not allow him time to take directions from the federation for its representation and that it also did not provide an opportunity to the federal government to explain its point of view. They avoided making further comments, saying that it was premature to comment on the memogate issue as the matter was subjudice. They also urged the government to implement the apex court’s verdicts in letter and sprit and write letters to Swiss authorities for the reopening of corruption cases pending against President Zardari and others. They said that there was no harm in writing a letter to the Swiss authorities and that the government would have to act upon the apex court’s verdict. staff report
