US welcomes Gilani's 'positive statements'


LAHORE: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has hinted at rebuilding the country's fragile ties with United States after deadly NATO strikes at Pakistani checkposts.

In an interview with American news agency, Gilani said that repairing ties with US was doable and added that it would not take long to achieve new relationship with the old ally.

He said the country was committed to reconciliation process despite Pakistan boycotted Bonn conference on Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, US state department welcomed Gilani's 'positive statements' on Pakistan-US relationship.

During a daily press briefing, state department's spokesman Mark Toner said relationship between Pakistan and US were vital to national security interests of both the countries.

He said that the interrogation in NATO assault at Salala checkposts were underway.
