PML-Q considers quitting coalition government in Sindh

* Party expresses distrust over Sindh PPP

* Issues clean chit to President Zardari

By Asad Farooq

KARACHI: Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) Sindh general secretary Haleem Adil Shaikh has announced to summon the session, to be held on Dec18, of party’s Sindh council to review the political ties with Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).

The decision was surfaced on Monday after the recent shuffle in Sindh cabinet and Shaikh’s visit to the interior Sindh areas.

Though the party workers had been facing discrimination since long and the policies of PPP compelled PML-Q workers towards a sense of inferiority, despite all their sacrifices for democracy, the recent development in regard with invitation to PML-Q leader Altaf Unar for switching his political loyalty, indeed pushed PML-Q to review its political ties and stance, said sources at the PML-Q.

When contacted, PML-Q leader Shaikh said that the session was summoned to have a concession over the party stance towards the PPP government, as their party workers had developed severe concerns about the PPP. He further elaborated that PML-Q supporters were already subjected to negligence during the relief activities in flood affected areas, and once again when rehabilitation process was undergoing in the flood affected areas of the province, our party workers were neglected deliberately.

To a question, he said that PPP had failed to keep its promises and commitments for several months. He said that around two months ago when Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) was joining the coalition, the PPP committed for alternate departments but failed. He said during a meeting with PML Q head Chaudhary Shujjat, on Nov 22, Sindh chief minister had made commitment for alternate departments including relief and rehabilitation, besides removing political cases against PML-Q leaders but PPP did not keep its words.

He said that instead of removing cases against PML-Q leaders, one of their leaders properly was invited to join PPP, which was an open violation of accord between the two parties, signed on April 2. Such illogical and immoral attempt was unbearable for each and every worker of the party and we were going to take a concrete step in this regard, he added.

Replying to a question, he said that it was being considered that if the party would withdraw from the coalition government. He further said that their party leadership intended to join the PPP for a political coalition in upcoming elections, but it seemed then impossible.

He blamed the provincial cabinet of the PPP was responsible of all that mess and miss-commitments, while the President and PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari was misguided and unaware of the situation due the conspiracies, being hatched by the provincial leadership. It is pertinent to mention here that declining political support in the province, rehabilitation process, province’s political situation and several other issues will also discussed at the meeting scheduled to be held on Dec 18, in which about 100 members will participate from across the province.
