SC bench to hear Memogate case on Dec 19
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) has fixed December 19 for the hearing of infamous Memogate scandal case, Geo News reported Thursday.
A nine-member larger bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry will hear the case.
Nine petitioners including Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) filed constitutional petitions against the memo scandal.
The initial hearing of the case was held on December 1 where the court sought written response from President Asif Ali Zardari, former Ambassador to US Husain Haqqani, Mansoor Ijaz, Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Lt Gen Ahmed Shuja Pasha and the foreign secretary to explain the matter of the memorandum allegedly written to the US government.
The court had appointed former DG FIA Tariq Khosa to head the investigating commission formed by the SC who refused take up the task.
The court has now fixed the case to be heard in open court in order to appoint a new head of the commission while a notice has also been issued to the attorney general.
The larger bench of the Supreme Court led by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry will hear the case on December 19.
