Officials recalled from Afghan border for consultations: ISPR

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Army has said that Border Coordination Officers, posted along Afghan border for coordination with NATO in Afghanistan, have been recalled for consultations to further improve coordination with foreign forces in the neighbouring country. Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Major General Athar Abbas said that some people were called in for “consultations” as how to improve coordination with NATO/ISAF so that incidents like that of November 26 could be avoided in future. He said that the impression was wrong that all of the forces along the Afghan borders were pulled back. “Some of the forces are still remaining in the posts and others should be back at their posts within the next few days,” he added. After the step by Pakistan, US officials expressed concern about the potential impact as they said Pakistan was pulling out of at least two of the three centres along the border and it could badly affect coordination. After the NATO attacks on two Pakistani posts in Mohmand Agency along Afghan border, martyring 24 Pakistani soldiers, tension was visible in Pak-US relations. Pakistan ordered US to vacate Shamsi airbase, operative stations of Americans drone, and blocked supply for NATO and US forces in Afghanistan besides boycotting Bonn Conference on future of Afghanistan. The US and Pakistan have offered different accounts of what led to the NATO attacks. online
