Shujaat rules out any attempt for change

Staff Report

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain ruled out on Saturday any undemocratic act during the present scenario when democracy was progressing well in the country.

Talking to the media after a seminar, Shujaat said that all stakeholders were required to strengthen the democratic process in the country and brushed aside the perception that there had been any kind of military coup, adding that such rumours should not be spread for the sake of democracy.

He felt that country needed stability and that points should not be scored in the current situation to gain political mileage.

Replying to a query about the health of President Asif Ali Zardari, Shujaat said that he had gone abroad for medical treatment and rejected reports that suggested that the president would not come back to the country. “We should avoid making an issue of such a thing,” the PML-Q chief insisted.

About an alliance with the PML-N, he noted that an alliance would not serve any purpose any purpose and that all factions of Muslim League should be brought together for the sake of national stability.

He said that his party would welcome all those who would come forward for the stability and development of the country.

Earlier, during the seminar on human rights, Shujaat said that the PML-Q had always raised its voice for human rights and that when Nawab Akbar Bugti was killed, he was asked not to go for condolences, but they put aside all such suggestions and went.

He urged the government to recover all missing persons in Balochistan and play its role in this regard.

PML-Q Secretary General Mushahid Hussain Syed said that party had always done politics on issues and raised its voice on the rights of the people.

He said that the Q-League did politics on principles and that in the very spirit of these principles, it had played its part to restore the chief justice of Pakistan.

Terming the blocking of NATO supplies as a positive step by the government, Syed said that it could not have taken this decision if the PML-Q had not supported it.
