MQM tables new suggestions on LG system

Staff Report

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Wednesday tabled new suggestions on the Local Government (LG) System 2011 to attract the ruling Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), but the two sides failed to reach a consensus.

A core committee looking after the affairs of provincial issues between the PPP and MQM met at the Chief Minister’s House and both parties agreed to continue consensus till the finalisation of draft. The meeting was attended by Sindh Education Minister Pir Mazharul Haq, Law Minister Muhammad Ayaz Soomro, Archives Minister Rafique Engineer and PPP leader Rasool Bux Baloch whereas Parliamentary Leader in Sindh Assembly Syed Sardar Ahmed, Dr Sagheer Ahmed, MNA Wasim Akhtar and Kanwar Naveed Jamil represented the MQM.

MQM tabled new suggestions on the local government system, which were related to the local government department. Local Government Minister Agha Siraj Durrani did not attend the meeting, so it was decided that the committee would meet again in his presence and deliberate upon proposals clause-to-clause.
