PPP, PML-N trying to curb independence of judiciary: Daniyal

Staff Report

PESHAWAR: Pakistan People’s Party government and PML-N who call themselves the champions of independent judiciary are trying to curb the independence of judiciary by enforcing executive magistracy system and the local government system of 1979. Jeevay Pakistan Jeevay Muqami Hukumat (JPJM) Chairman Daniyal Aziz said this while addressing the District Bar Association in Peshawar on Saturday.

He said the historic judgment of the division bench headed by the Balochistan High Court chief justice had restored the supremacy of the constitution and had foiled all efforts to curb the independence of judiciary. He emphasised the need of such decisions in other provinces as well to give the people their due rights.

This petition in the Balochistan High Court was initiated by JPJM. He said the current decision of the Balochistan High Court was a historic event that would not only help to show people that they had power, but also that the judiciary upheld their constitutional rights. Daniyal also talked about the implications of the judgment on the structure of administration and governance at the local level and its impact on democratic development in Pakistan. The JPJM chairman claimed that the party was campaigning countywide for rule of law and rights of common people, and that he wanted lawyers to join and support him for the restoration of the local government system. He said the bureaucratic system was the root cause of corruption at the local level. By not forming the public safety commission, provincial governments are yet again violating the constitution, he added. He is addressing bar associations to seek support of lawyers for the movement for restoration of local government system. In this regard, public conventions are also being organised throughout the country.

Peshawar District Bar Association President Razaullah Khan Khalil, Bar Association Secretary Qaiser Ali Khan, Pesahwar High Court Bar Association General Secretary Aminur Rehman Khan, provincial bar council members Ali Khan, Maqbool Lehri, Naseer Jan and a large number of lawyers were present at the District Bar.
