SC seeks reply over voting right for overseas Pakistanis

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court sought a reply from the government on Wednesday on a plea of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan relating to the right of overseas Pakistanis to vote. A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was hearing identical constitutional petitions filed by PTI chief Imran Khan and others and made the Ministry of Law, Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Election Commission of Pakistan as respondents. It was requested that respondents be directed to take appropriate measures in order to make it possible for overseas Pakistanis to cast their vote in Pakistani consulates and embassies like many other developed and developing countries. staff report
