SC moved for placing Zardari name on ECL
ISLAMABAD: A petition was filed in the Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday with a plea to constitute a high-level commission to probe the memogate scandal as well as to include the name of President Asif Ali Zardari in the Exist Control List (ECL) till the finalisation of the case. Former federal minister for Science and Technology Senator Azam Swati, who recently joined the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), filed the petition under Article 184(3) of the Constitution of Pakistan through Advocate Tariq Asad, making the Federation, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs secretary, Ministry of Interior secretary, President Asif Ali Zardari, former Pakistani ambassador to the US Husain Haqqani, Principal Secretary of Presidency Salman Farooqi, Mansoor Ijaz, Chief of Army Staff and Inter-Services Intelligence director general, as respondent. The petitioner also sought the registration of cases of high treason against, to get the cases of high treason registered against President Asif Ali Zardari, Husain Haqqani, Salman Farooqui and others involved in the scandal, if it was proved. The petitioner alleged that President Asif Ali Zardari, Husain Haqqani and various others, including Salman Farooqui and Spokesperson to the President Farhatullah Babar, were partisan in the memo scandal, adding that their cellphone call, SMS and BBM records be used to reach the truth. The petitioner submitted that the commission be of a high-level and consist of at least three persons of high repute and integrity to investigate the memo scandal and fix responsibility. The petitioner also requested the apex court to summon Mansoor Ijaz to assist the SC as he had indicated his willingness to do so at a number of occasions and demand forensic examination of computers, cellphones and BlackBerry BBM records used during May 1 to May 20. staff report
