Gilani has violated oath by criticising military: Shahbaz
* Punjab CM says rulers engaged in bid to strengthen anti-Pakistan forces
Staff Report
LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif strongly condemned the statements by the Pakistan People’s Party leadership against the army and said that it was the first time in history that the rulers of a country had subjected their own army to criticism. He stated that it was unfortunate that Pakistani rulers were talking in the idiom of the worst enemies of the country and were engaged in nefarious attempts to strengthen the hands of anti-Pakistan forces through baseless and unfounded allegations. He said that those who had levelled allegations against the Pakistan Army had in fact betrayed the commitment they had made in their oaths. He claimed that an attempt had been made to undermine national interests through such statements and that the people of Pakistan were fully aware of the evil tactics of the rulers and would hold the accountable at every level.
In reply, PPP leader Babar Awan said that Nawaz Sharif should take notice of Shahbaz Sharif’s statement in which he dubbed Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani as a traitor.
Babar Awan said this while talking to the media on Friday. He held that no one was a traitor in national politics and alleged that Shahbaz Sharif was using the language of Ziaul Haq.
He said that from the Sharifs, the elder brother was demanding that the government hold talks with the people of Balochistan and younger brother was calling the prime minister a traitor.
Meanwhile, Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah also targeted Gilani, saying that he should mend his bad governance instead of criticising the Pakistan Army. “The chief executive has full powers and instead of issuing statements against the army, he should have terminated the extensions in the tenures of the army and ISI chiefs,” he said, adding that Gilani should address party matters before questioning the credibility of the country’s institutions.
