* Says his daughter was also resigning from National Assembly

KARACHI: Pakistan Muslim League-N senior vice president Makhdoom Javed Hashmi joined the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Saturday.
Addressing a crowded press conference on Saturday, Hashmi said that he has joined the PTI to save Pakistan from crises.
He said that Imran’s determination inspired him to join his party as he and the PTI chief shared similar views on a variety of issues.
He said that he and Imran shared the same vision of a new Pakistan, free of corruption, adding that Imran asked him to join the PTI for the sake of Pakistan and not the party.
Hashmi indicated that it was an era of ‘demise of accountability’ in the country as people come, loot and leave with impunity.
The time has come for emergence of parties which do not need the establishment’s support, he remarked.
In the past, every party condemned the establishment but they eventually ended up asking for their help, he said.
Hashmi reiterated that he had no conflict with his former party’s leadership and that he still held Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif in high esteem. Shahbaz is like a brother and dear friend, he said.
Hashmi admitted that Khan was his favourite cricketer but now he was a star politician as well.
Hashmi also announced that his daughter Memoona Hashmi was also resigning from her National Assembly seat.
Welcoming Makhdoom Javed Hashmi to his party, Imran Khan said that the veteran politician had not placed any pre-condition for joining the PTI.
On the occasion, Shah Mehmood Qureshi also welcomed Javed Hashmi in the PTI’s fold and said that it was the time of revolution when people were joining a common platform to achieve goals that were beyond personal interests.
