KARACHI: Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has said that the government has full respect for all national institutions, including the judiciary, military, parliament and media, and all of them should work within their constitutional framework.

The prime minister made the statement during his concluding remarks at the 100th session of the federal cabinet, which he chaired here on Sunday.

Gilani said the government would ensure full support and cooperation to all these institutions and work along with them.

While referring to the problems in Balochistan, he said that a committee had already been formed, which includes representatives from the province like minister Syed Khurshid Shah, to sort out the problems.

The prime minister declared 2012 as the year of Balochistan. Gilani added that the government would ensure complete implementation of the “Agaz-e-Haqooq-e-Balochistan” to provide fundamental rights to the people of province under the constitution.

Regarding the implementation of the party manifesto, Gilani said that 80 percent of it had been implemented, and efforts would be accelerated to fulfil the remaining 20 percent in the final year of the government’s current tenure.

He said that the government has also been following the reconciliation process initiated by Benazir Bhutto and was taking all decisions with mutual consultation of all stakeholders.

The prime minister said that the government took all decisions after consulting with coalition partners in parliament. Gilani said that the elected parliament was performing its function and taking all the decisions through mutual consultations within the parliament to ensure this process continues. The prime minister added that the democratic government ensured the freedom of press and independence of judiciary.

He added that the restoration of the constitution to its original form by the present democratic government was one of the best ways to pay homage to Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah on the occasion of his birth anniversary.

Concerning the upcoming elections, Gilani said that the government would provide a free, fair and transparent atmosphere to ensure that no one would complain.

On the issues of Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO), Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and Pakistan Railway, the prime minister directed the finance minister to take effective measures on priority basis for uplifting these institutions. He said that the task force headed by the finance minister would also try to combat gas and electricity load shedding within the next year.
