PCNS decides to summon Haqqani, Pasha, Mansoor Aijaz
ISLAMABAD: Parliamentary Committee on National Security (PCNS) on Friday decided to summon former Ambassador to the US, Hussain Haqqani, Director General, Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Lt. Gen. Shuja Ahmed Pasha and a US national, Mansoor Ijaz to present their point of view regarding memo issue.
Briefing the journalists after the committee meeting held at the Parliament House, its Chairman, Senator Raza Rabbani said, "everybody would be called individually."
He said a meeting of the committee would be convened on the memo issue before January 10, next year to further discuss it. "We have circulated all the documents among the members of the Committee regarding the memo issue."
Responding to a question, he said that committee would decide that how Mansoor Aijaz could be summoned.
He, however said there were also 'recognized diplomatic channels' to bring Mansoor Aijaz before the committee.
When asked that was memo an issue, he replied that the committee would decide about it.
Regarding hearing of memo issue in the Supreme Court, he said, there was a lot of difference between hearing of issue in the Supreme Court and the proceeding of Parliamentary Committee on National Security.
Briefing about Friday's proceeding of the committee, he said the committee discussed two point agenda comprising Nato and Memo issues.
Raza Rabbani said the Committee Secretariat has prepared a working draft on the basis of recommendations of the members. "This draft would be circulated among the members to finalize it in the next meeting to be held on Tuesday."
He said the Minister of Finance and Secretary Finance were asked to attend the meeting but they could not turn up for being abroad. "Now, they would attend the Tuesday's meeting."
Rabbani said after getting input of all the stakeholders and final discussion on the Nato issue, we would send our recommendations to the Prime Minister to present it to the joint sitting of the Parliament. (APP)
