Imran demands NAB chief’s removal
* PTI chief says NAB chief was involved in NICL case
* Office needs to be above suspicion if accountability is to be made effective
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Saturday demanded that the government remove NAB Chairman Chaudhry Qamar Zaman from his office instead of “creating a drama” of sending him on a leave.
The PTI chairman told the government that the SC had implicated Zaman in the NICL case and the office of NAB chairman has to be above suspicion if accountability is to be made effective.
“The present appointment shows the government’s mala fide intention on the issue of comprehensive and strict accountability,” he said.
Following the SC’s verdict in the NICL scam, Qamar Zaman Chaudhry had proceeded on leave for an indefinite period.
Talking to office-bearers of PTI Core Committee after its meeting, Imran Khan said the party would stage a protest in Lahore on December 22 against inflation in the country. He said that inflation was an “economic drone” for the Pakistani people and the PTI would carry out a “huge protest” in Lahore to protest against such drones. He criticised the government for making a deal with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and US.
PTI Punjab President Ejaz Chaudhry informed the party chairman that prices of all fruits and vegetables had gone up by almost 100 percent in the last six months.
Separately, the PTI-led Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government would handover a resolution regarding suspension of NATO supplies to the federal government in the next few days.
The PTI Core Committee made this decision at its meeting. The committee also decided to set aside all the pressure with regard to blocking the NATO supplies. The PTI committee asked KP Chief Minister Pervez Khattak and his ministers to meet federal government officials and press their demands. Ejaz Chaudhry, PTI General Secretary Dr Yasmin Rashid, Information Secretary Andleeb Abbas and other senior party leaders attended the meeting. agencies
