Diversion from ZAB’s policies failed PPP: PPP-SB

Staff Report

LAHORE: Pakistan People’s Party-Shaheed Bhutto (PPP-SB) President Dr Mubashir Hassan, who is among founding members of the PPP, said on Saturday that diversion from the policies of Zulifkar Ali Bhutto (ZAB) had caused downfall of PPP and it would remain unable to make a comeback in general elections of 2018.

He said this while addressing a convention of PPP-SB in connection with 47th Foundation Day of PPP, at his residence – the place where the party was founded under the leadership of ZAB.

The PPP-SB secretary general, district presidents, office-bearers and workers participated in the convention.

Hassan said Zulifkar Ali Bhutto always believed that the PPP was a party of workers and farmers. However, he added, the present PPP leadership had failed to take care of farmers.

“Bhutto was against the US but they [the current PPP leadership] are with the US; he promoted nationalisation but they supported privatisation. Hence, there is no similarity between policies of the two,” Hassan added.

Commenting on Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s Foundation Day speech and his claim of making a comeback before general elections of 2018, Hassan said they would be unable to deliver and perform accordingly.

Hassan told Daily Times that the elite, rich class of the country believed that ZAB was their enemy and they ultimately succeeded in their nefarious designs and hanged their popular leader to death.

“Later, Benazir Bhutto whose policies were altogether different as compared to those of ZAB was also murdered, then Murtaza Bhutto was also killed brutally and now the real party is being run by his wife Ghinwa Bhutto.”

Hassan said the PPP-SB believes that privatisation has greatly damaged economy of the country and the nationalism policy presented by ZAB was the right one and the only way to safe Pakistan’s economy.

PPP-SB leaders said that banks, insurance companies, key industries such as Pakistan Steel Mills, cement, heavy machinery and car manufacturing units should be nationalised. Also sectors dealing in energy resources like oil, gas and coal should also be nationalised, they added.

According to PPP-SB leaders, army chief Gen Raheel Sharif is being advised by many to follow the policies of former army chief Gen (r) Ashfaq Kayani but this is “not a proper advice at all”.

The party also announced to contest the upcoming local government elections and field its candidates all over the country for the purpose. However, it said that these elections should be supervised by police and lower judiciary.
