SC gives government till December 5 to present missing persons
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has given the government till December 5 to present the missing persons.
During proceedings of the missing persons case, Attorney General Munir A Malik had requested for time which was granted by the apex court.
The IGFC has also been ordered to appear before the apex court and failure to do so will result in action against him.
Earlier, the Acting Defence Secretary informed the Supreme Court that the status of three more missing persons out of the 33 was now known. The Acting Defence Secretary said one of the missing persons, Habibullah had left the country from Peshawar in December 2012. He requested the apex court not to ask about the other two missing persons because if their identities were revealed it would create a security risk.
Chief Justice Chaudhry remarked that these were just three people and if only 30 per cent of the missing persons had been presented, the court could say that there had been progress. The Chief Justice said the court should be informed in writing where these missing persons were kept and when they had been released.
The Acting Defence Secretary said the release of the missing persons was a dangerous process. He added that the death of two missing persons while in custody was due to natural causes. Chief Justice Chaudhry remarked that an FIR should be registered and the doctor who conducted the postmortem should also be named.
In his statement before the apex court, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said he found the status of five missing persons in four days. He added that the matter had been raised with the prime minister and army chief and the missing persons would be released.
