PTI installs new leadership in KP

Staff Report

PESHAWAR: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has made changes in its provincial leadership of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), appointing Senator Azam Swati as party’s KP president and Khalid Masood as general secretary.
A brief statement from the PTI read that the move followed a decision taken by the party’s Core Committee. The announcement was made on behalf of PTI Central Secretary General Jehangir Tareen.
Senator Azam Swati replaces Asad Qaiser who is acting as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly speaker while Kahlid Masood has replaced Shaukat Yousafzai who is heading the Health Ministry after winning a provincial assembly seat in Peshawar.
KP Chief Minister Pervaiz Khattak had resigned from the position of central secretary general after intense pressure from Imran Khan.
Imran Khan was known to be against the idea of officials carrying out responsibilities in government offices while simultaneously occupying high party positions.
The party’s Central Executive Committee had decided in the past that dual offices would not be allowed, though a final decision in the matter was left up to party chief Imran Khan.
Following increased criticism over being unable to attend to his dual responsibilities after Peshawar church blasts, Pervez Khattak fhad inally resigned from his party post.
The PTI has made changes to party leadership at a time when it is staging sit-ins to block NATO supplies in protest against US drone strikes in Pakistan.
