Spymaster calls on PM as SC ratchets up pressure over missing persons
ISLAMABAD: Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI) Director General Lt. General Zaheerul Islam called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, sources told Geo News on Thursday.
According to the sources, the missing person issue and security situation came under discussion in the meeting.
They said that the ISI chief briefed the premier about the missing person’s issue due to which the Nawaz government is under immense pressure from a Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, who is due to retire this month.
The Supreme Court has been pressing the government and secret agencies to produce the missing persons. The top court had directed the defence minister to appear before the bench to apprise it about the status of 30 undeclared detainees picked up by military agencies.
Nawaz Sharif, who was holding the portfolio of defence minister, swiftly shed the defence ministry, handing it over to one of his close lieutenants Khawaja Muhammad Asif.
Asif, however, in his couple of appearances at the apex court seemed to fail in satisfying the court.
