Government should stop dual-policy on drones: Imran

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protested outside Parliament House at D-Chowk against US drone strikes by staging a sin-in which was attended by the party’s top leadership including Imran khan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Parvez Khattak.

Addressing the participants, Imran Khan once again brought their attention to what he termed as dual-policies of politicians when it came to the US. Khan said parliamentarians should be honest with the people of Pakistan. “All political parties had decided to stop Nato supplies if drone strikes did not stop. Now these parties are criticising the only party (PTI) which is doing so.”

The PTI chairman said there was a difference between friendship and slavery. “Pakistan’s relationship with the US is that of slavery not friendship.” Imran Khan further said that the Americans would only respect Pakistan if the country’s government started telling the truth.

Khan added that there was a global debate underway over the violation of international and humanitarian laws committed by drone strikes. The PTI chairman vowed that they would not let NATO supplies resume until US drone strikes stopped.

Khan cautioned the centre not to attempt to oust the PTI led government in Khyber Pakhtunknwa as this would result in their government being overthrown.

Later, the participants of the sit-in proceeded to the National Assembly where a memorandum against drone strikes was handed to the speaker.

The PTI has taken their protest to the federal capital after holding sit-ins in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa which blocked the Nato Supply route. The PTI blockade of routes has led to the US suspending the shipment of military hardware out of Afghanistan.
