Thumb verification Election Tribunals responsibility: Nisar
ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chauhdry Nsar Ali Khan said on Thursday said that verification of thumb impressions was the responsibility of the Election Tribunals.
Responding to a point of order raised by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan, he said he was assigning the job to justice retired Wajihuddin as the issue fell outside the scope of his authority.
“We had called for verification of thumb impressions in 40 constituencies instead of four, but the verification process should be carried out in 272 constituencies,” he said.
The minister said that the interim government and the Election Commission should respond as to why magnetic ink was not used in the polls.
The interior minister said the issue of removal of NADRA chairman Tariq Malik was subjudice. However‚ he assured the lower house of the parliament that the verdict of the court would be fully implemented.
Nisar said Malik was also reluctant towards audit of the accounts of NADRA. He assured the house that in future the NADRA chairman will be selected under NADRA ordinance.
