450 alumni meet at Pakistan-US Alumni Network Reunion
LAHORE: Around 450 alumni from across the country participated in the Pakistan-US Alumni Network Reunion held at Faletti’s on Friday. The event featured colourful events and highlighted the achievements of volunteers of the exchange programme. Alumni President Dr Waseem Anwar, General Secretary Zainab Lodhi, Waqar Ahmed were present on the occasion. The recorded messages of United States Consul General Nina Maria Fite and Cultural Affairs Officer Menaka Nayyar were played for the participants. Zainab Lodhi moderated the first session, which began with the national anthems of both countries and a standing ovation by participants. Two success stories of alumni – Dr Yasmin Roofi from Bahawalpur and Rubina Feroze Bhatti from Sargodha – were shown which were full of inspiration and motivation for all alumni. Asim Hamza from the United Stated Education Foundation Pakistan (USEFP) gave a presentation on $5,000 grant for the alumni for launching development projects in their respective areas of interest. He said acceptance and processing of applications would be on a rolling basis and there was no deadlines of solicitations for these grants. He said the five main objectives of grants included support and development of new leaders, educational and economic opportunities, public welfare and increasing understanding about the US and the American people. staff report
