President calls for development of human resources

KARACHI: President Mamnoon Hussain on Thursday called for the development of human resources by enhancing the capacity of the existing educational and research institutions.
“We are blessed with enormous natural resources. However, we need to develop human expertise and institutional capacity especially in the field of chemical sciences to get maximum benefit from our resource base,” he said.
The president was speaking as chief guest at the global launch of the website of Latif Ebrahim Jamal Knowledge Hub and closing ceremony of 14th Asian Symposium of Medicinal Plants, Spices and other Natural Products, at Governor’s House.
He said that Pakistan, like many other developing countries, needs greater efforts for developing indigenous capacity in the area of science and technology. He underlined the need for more investment to develop world class institutions in the country to groom talented youth for catering to the emerging challenges globally and bring a social and economic revolution in the country.
He especially called upon the private sector to complement government’s efforts for the promotion of education in the country.
“I am confident, this conference will be instrumental in developing such a capacity in Pakistan,” he added.
The president noted that Karachi, once considered ahead of other areas of the country in education and research, is moving at a “very low pace” on this account. He appealed to the well-off and generous families of Karachi to come forward and contribute in promotion of quality education and research aimed at capacity building of human resources especially youth.
The president assured that the PML-N-led government is committed to ensuring peace and security in Karachi. He expressed satisfaction over the results achieved from the ongoing targeted operation in Karachi and hoped that the people of Karachi would see a big improvement in the near future.
He called for joint efforts by every section of society for social and economic progress in the country.
Mamnoon Hussain informed the gathering that over the last six months, the growth rate of the country had improved to five percent from three percent.
“Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif today told me that we have achieved 5% growth in six months against 3%,” the president added.
Separately, the president met a delegation of representatives of social sector from India and Pakistan in Islamabad.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that its time for Pakistan and India to move towards finding a lasting solution to the outstanding issues between them.
He said that both India and Pakistan need to take practical measures to bring much-needed change in the two countries. He called for change in mindset to expedite trade between Pakistan and India.
He said the government is trying its best for the well-being of people and making Pakistani economy strong.
He lauded the role played by social sector organisations in uplifting society in general and poorest of the poor in particular.
