LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Thursday that future of the people of Pakistan and India was linked to peace.
Talking to the media after meeting Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi, the chief minister said Pakistan and India should benefit from the experiences of each other by resolving their disputes.
Shahbaz said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government wants a lasting and permanent peace in the region and solution to all issues amicably. He said that a comfortable life, best treatment facilities and better education is the dream of the people of both the countries. Therefore, it is duty of the governments of both the countries to discharge their responsibilities for materialising this dream, he added.
The chief minister said that the dream of development and prosperity could not be realised without utilising the resources for the betterment of common man.
Earlier, Shahbaz met Manmohan Singh and conveyed the message of goodwill of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. It was stated in the message that Indian government would find Pakistan government and people with it at every stage of the journey of friendship. Matters relating to mutual cooperation in various sectors, including energy, trade, health and transport, were discussed during the meeting.
Federal Minister for Trade Khurram Dastagir, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatmi, Pakistan High Commissioner Salman Bashir and Punjab Minister for Education Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan were also present on the occasion.
Later, the chief minister paid a visit to Dehli Metro Train and travelled by the underground train from Patel Chowk to Rajiv Chowk. Metro officials gave a detailed briefing to the chief minister about Delhi Metro System.
Shahbaz also informed the officials about the launch of Lahore Metro Bus Service.
The chief minister also visited Jamia Masjid Delhi where Ahmad Shah Bukhari, imam of the mosque, welcomed him.
On hearing the news of arrival of chief minister, thousands of people gathered in the mosque. Shahbaz offered Maghrib prayers in the mosque. After prayers, he addressed people and said that it was an honour for him to visit Jamia Masjid Delhi as it is a place from where a number of political and religious movements had started.
Ahmad Shah Bukhari, speaking on the occasion, said that Indian Muslims also pray for the development and prosperity of Pakistan and Pakistani people. He also prayed for the development, prosperity of the people, security of both the countries and peace in the region.
